I grew up in South Salt Lake, UT. At the usual age I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico. I got a BA in mathematics and a PhD in physics from the University of Utah. Just before finishing the PhD I married Silvia Ortiz who I met on my mission. When I finished work for the PhD I got a position at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in B-division and worked 34 full time years there. My areas of expertise were nuclear physics and computational physics applied to nuclear explosives. After retiring I began working on my book while continuing 5 part time years at LLNL.
